Proposed building: The Chicago Spire

Any takers?

I'm not sure a design like that can be short shrifted - this seems like an all or nothing project. I think it will happen and am willing to throw a four cents in a jar every day for the next 7 years to back it up.

Are you aware that if you happen to win, you'll get paid with a jar filled with 10000 one cent coins?

To paraphrase El Protoolio, it's not the length, it's the girth. Chicago might have the length, but London is packing some serious girth.

Yes! Good link. Read about if before, fascinating read.

He went to bed about a decade ago, or whenever he sold his soul to the bankers and the elites.

Alright then. Interestingly enough, I ran across this quote in the Trib shortly after my post:
The Chicago Spire: Reality or fantasy? With the opening of the Spire's sales center Jan. 14 and the start of a global sales campaign, the spotlight will shift from design to real estate and whether developer Garrett Kelleher can sell enough apartments to get the 1,193-unit tower off the ground. Located on the 18th floor of the NBC Tower at 454 N. Columbus Drive, the sales center contains full-scale mockups of apartments in the Spire, plus models of the skyscraper and other Calatrava buildings. Place your Spire bets now.

Now let's see if I can find any change in between the couch cushions...

London won't be packing extra girth. The Spire is just as wide, but will be almost four times taller than 30 St. Mary Axe!

Think of it as London having the buttplug, while Chicago will have the slim-twist vibrator.

In all seriousness, I think the Spire is a fine design and is rather ambitious, when you consider the structural system and shape to the great height of the building. It does not follow other structural systems that have been used for taller buildings, especially those in Chicago (bundled tube, trussed tube, framed tube, etc...).

Imagine if a female King Kong or Godzilla did masturbate with the spire. Everybody who lived there would get to see the inner workings of this giant beast through their windows, smell it too.

I hope they wouldn't suffocate, and washing the windows after that would have to suck.
