" But... MY GIRLFRIEND MADE ME!"

I am fortunate enough to currently be going out with someone who has good musical tastes. But it has not always been this way. And there were times with previous girlfriends that I ended up seeing some truly shocking acts, all in the name of "love". I confess to having endured Levellers and James for this reason.

Has anyone else allowed themselves to be dragged along to some awful gig, just for a quiet life?

I can't remember what they are called; they are a British band doing the most fuck-awful instrumental sub-Hawkwind fuck-crap.

They got quite big in the 90s for some unknowable reason.

Drugs actually.

Without a doubt the worst them ever. Ever.

What were they called now...

:(

And then to add insult to injury, she ran off with her ski-instructor!!

This girl was new to the city and had just begun working where I was working. We got to be friends which precipitated her purhcase of tickets to see Guster-Ben Folds-Rufus Wainwright as a way of saying thank you for being such a good friend at such a difficult time in her life. I was initially saved by the fact that I had to work at the given time, but when I pointed this out she gleefully replied that she had gotten my manager to get my shift covered. I was set up man. Needless to say it was the worst performance I had ever been to, but it was a really nice gesture on her part and as much as I hated it, I appreciated the thought(I felt really bad when I noticed the tickets were like 50 bucks or thereabouts). This is why I have stopped making friends with people.

A girlfriend once did not allow me to see a hot snakes performance. It was their first since Jehu and it was in San diego. This is why I have stopped dating women.

A friend once took me to see a band called 'The Shellacs' a year or so ago, swearing that they were the new Foo Fighters (who both of us absolutely adore).
Boy was he wrong! They sounded like AC/ZZ Top. Why they were playing a venue of such a size when they would have been more at home in a pub is beyond me. Still, the bassist had fetching arms, and I'm reliably informed that he will be joining the Foo Fighters soon.

This will mean precious little to the American posters here, but god forgive me I went to see the Cooper Temple Clause with friends and danced like a drunken twat. Oh the shame.

indigo girls, with my sister

michelle malone opened. she wasn't bad. i saw her (again with my sister) at a bar in chicago as well, and she was pretty good. nice, rough voice.

the indigo girls are fucking terrible. 'closer to fine' is ok, and sara lee was playing bass, which was nice. but the music was in general very, very bad. pompous in that condescending, white-person folky way that i fucking hate. the 'rockin' parts were pure wimp and even worse than the rest of it.

i sat through the entire show. i couldn't bring myself to stand up. i was the dick who sat through the entire indigo girls performance.

they totally destroyed some bob dylan song. i have a black space in my mind where the title should be stored. it was the inverse of hendrix's 'all along the watchtower' as dylan covers go.

it was like watching a lesbian version of the eagles with worse songs

but my sister liked it, and that's what counts!

a friend of mine saw blues traveler with his cousin and had the same kind of experience, right down to the sitting throughout.
