i will never never get this right. it is wrong as i type it, but here it goes:

1. Celebrated Summer - Husker Du - New Day Rising (f**k you for making me pick just one... this band could comprise almost my entire list.)
2. Youth of America - Wipers - Youth of America (heard the Melvins cover 1st... Greg who?)
3. Between the Bars - Elliott Smith - Either/Or (again, one is so so hard to pick...)
4. Being In Love - Songs: Ohia - Mi Sei Apparso Come Un Fantasma (OR 'Are We Getting Any Closer?'. got this as a gift after the Grey Tower 7'' totally blew my mind. i was an instantly obsessed. my fav live album ever. the Magnolia Electric Co. just doesn't do it for me.)
5. Violence - Low - Long Division (i guess? all that middle 90's stuff is A+.)
6. Honey Bucket - Melvins - Houdini (how does one pick one all encompassing Melvins track? get real...)
7. Wingwalker - Shellac - 7'' (i'm a P L A N E...)
8. Cortez the Killer - Neil Young - Zuma (total classic. hits me like lightning everytime. i do prefer On The Beach as a whole though.)
9. The Green Manalishi - Fleetwood Mac - single (deceptively heavy and stellar in every way. Go Your Own Way, however is the saddest song ever. i hate it.)
10. The Boat Dreams From the Hill - Jawbreaker - 24 Hour Revenge Therapy (amazing song writing. truly. this album will be a classic for generations from now. you're grand children will be digging around in your attic for your copy. too bad Jets To Brazil didn't live up to the hype.)

...Ben Harper - Faded could have easily been on this list somewhere. i got into a lot of stuff after those first few albums were shoved in my direction. and I Got A Right didn't make it? Six Organs? Holy Sons? The Dicks? Sugar - Explode and Make Up could be number ten. i was obsessed with that electric/12 string guitar combo for the longest time. and still am...

this ain't right. i should be gut punched... 10 is not enough.

Funny, that remark was the main reason I read the rest of this thread.

also, to whoever posted "guy who invented fire," that's on the rude gesture, not at action park.

here's a guess at my top 10 songs (with donuts in as a whole album... think of it like a classical piece with a lot of short movements)

1. Pierre Schaeffer & Pierre Henry - "Scherzo" (Symphonie Pour un Homme Seul)
2. J Dilla - Dontus
3. Jackie McLean - "Blues in a Jiff" (Hypnosis)
4. Bob Dylan - "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" (Blonde on Blonde)
5. Shellac - "Billiard Player Song" (The Rude Gesture)
6. Television - "Torn Curtain" (Marquee Moon)
7. Madvillain - "Accordion" (Madvillainy)
8. Joy Division - "No Love Lost" (Substance?)
9. De La Soul - "Stakes Is High" (Stakes Is High)
10. Tony Williams Lifetime - "Vashkar" (Emergency!)

Do you honestly think this is the best Fugazi song? Get back to work.

I find this particular song, and the way the distorted percussion/feedback/clanking thingus rips into that drum break and then into the song, particularly exhilarating. I would say it's my favourite thing Fugazi has done, too.

agreed.

Lou Reed "Walk On The Wild Side"
Contortions "Contort Tourself"
Ramones "Rockaway Beach"
Pop Group "We Are Time"
Johnny Cash "Ring Of Fire"
Wire "I Am The Fly"
Germs "What We Do Is Secret" or "Media Blitz" or "We Must Bleed"
Throbbing Gristle "Discipline"
Boyd Rice "Total War"
Blue Oyster Cult "Dominance and Submission"

Not in any particular order, but if there must be one, the order they are in now is fine.

The Stooges really should be in there as well. It's hard to pick just one song of theirs. Probably "Down On The Street" or "Funhouse".
