Prince credited Robin Guthrie as one his main musical influences(as a guitarist and an innovative composer).He mentioned It many times.
I don't think that Prince comes even close.

His work looks good on paper, but It doesn't work out. When you actually listen to Prince you can't help but find it tedious.

I was leaning Stevie Wonder before I read the comments before me, but you guys really cement the case for Stevie Wonder.

Seriously, if I were an alien who had never heard any earth music, after reading this thread, I would probably vote for Stevie Wonder. You Cash-ites just haven't made the case.

And I suspect that's because the case isn't there to be made. Nothing against Johnny Cash, whom I like, but he's no Stevie Wonder.

(He's also no Ray Charles (and no Prince), but that's another thread...)
