Affordable, Reliable Microphones

I'm new to this forum, so I apologize up front if this is a little redundant.

I'm in the process of collecting mics for home recording. I've made some recordings before and find he process to be pretty damned exciting. In the past, I've borrowed AKG C1000's, AKG D112, a set of AT 2020 knock off's, a Rode NT-3, SM57's, and SM58's. Of that set, the only mic that really stood out was the Rode mic. Everything else is satisfactory at best.

Recently I purchased a Seinnhauser e609. I really like it so far. I'm not exceptionally wealthy, but want to make sure that my money counts when I get something. Could I get any suggestions on what would constitute a good, but relatively inexpensive mic? I mean, I'm down to save up and buy something good, I'm just not sure what exactly constitutes good.

Any suggestions on what to buy? I'd like something for acoustic instrumentation and good drum overheads. I've got my eye on an Audix D6 for bass drum. Any other ideas? Any idea where I may read product reviews (aside from Harmony-Central)?

Just trying to make an informed decision here. Thanks all.

I was told once to never spend big money on large diaphram condensers. It is apparently fast, cheap, and easy to gold-sputter a large diaphragm, while new technology has not reduced the cost, or time of wrapping a thin copper wire around a coil for a dynamic mic. So if you decide to spend a little money, go for a dynamic mic, not the rode. You can find an MCA SP-1 for $50 every once in a while. They're ok.

I've been taking notice of the mics from Cascade, notably the Fathead and Fathead II. Some threads here have mentioned them:
