I must respectfully disagree with tmidgett on this one. Keep the 7027's. They are available and will last a looong time when properly biased. The 6550's are too sterile and SS sounding.

I have owned both and there is no difference in the quality to my way of thinking. I had the non-master volume converted to a master volume with no adverse affect and it looked original. There is an external master volume box you can buy for the pre-master volume models anyway.

These are terrific amps that have so versatile a tone section you can make them sound like whatever you want. You can get a manual from www.ampegv4.com. Among other things it contains settings that show you how to create the sound of a Marshall or a Fender or whatever.

You can still get parts for them from www.fliptops.net including the external master volume. They sell kits for repairing Ampegs among other things.

I got tubes from www.the tubestorestore.com and they were very helpful and well informed.
