My local pub has a small sign outside that points to a "Disabled Doorbell".

If it's disabled then why bother pointing it out?

Seriously - it's also about 2 metres off the ground - there is no way in hell a person in a wheel chair could possibly reach it. I swear it's there just to mock disabled people. It wouldn't suprise me if the landlord had a camera trained on it and laughed at people trying to reach it.

I found out today that my favorite deli closed down. It was run by these two brothers, probably in their 50s, from Brooklyn; Angelo, and I don't know his brother's name. Last time I was there, Angelo was in the hospital for something heart related and his nephew was in from NY to help run the place. I don't know if they went back home or what. I hope Angelo didn't die. The place was kinda dirty, but their sandwiches were delicious.

Also, my wife is going to see Obama in Denver tomorrow. She needed somebody to watch our son, so she asked her aunt. Her aunt said yes, but that we shouldn't vote for a Muslim.

Got a raise at my "career-track" job today.

I feel quite the badass. I asked for a raise last week - only the second time in my life I have asked for one (all the other times it occurred on a regular basis or was just given to me.)

I explained that I had been working for the estate since August, and that now I would have to work there on my "days off" from my main job at the university. Which means I would be working 6 days a week. Since I was giving the estate one of my "weekend" days, they would have to pay me more to make my giving up a free day worth my while.

Since I do a lot of different things at this job, I thought there'd be three possible outcomes:

1) I don't get a raise, then I'd have to quit
2) I get a raise
3) I get canned because the estate wouldn't pay me more

I walked in today fully expecting 1 or 3, mostly because my boss hesitated before she said "I have to think about it" when I asked.

I'm not going to be rich from the raise, but it will help.
I make music/I also make pretty pictures
