The fact that we actually have the ability to rally mass support behind, technically speaking, the most "liberal" member of the U.S. Senate. Sure, the most "liberal-voting" member of the U.S. Congress ain't that far from the center (or hyper-capitalism), but it's a start.
The guy subverts and pacifies a sizable portion of the right-wing machinery. It's pretty astonishing. In a way, he's basically fooled moderates into thinking that, somehow, he's not nearly as pinko as Hillary. His ability to do this is a much needed asset to the Democratic party. Bill Clinton cut welfare yet, somehow, at least a 1/3 of this country is under the impression that he was a card-carrying socialist. Barack Obama changes the face of what is "liberal" or Democratic in this country.
