I've worked at a movie rental establishment for the past few years and when ever a movie in another language is released, it really makes the idiots stand out, which is 99% of the people who rent there.

The endless amount of phone calls I received when Pan's Labyrinth came out asking me for directions to get the movie "in American".

My response was always:

"You can't, you have to read the subtitles."

which was always followed by:

"NOW WHY DID THEY DO THAT!"

and my sarcastic response was always:

"Well... you see sir/madam, the director's name is Guillermo Del Toro, now judging from that alone, one could determine that the director is Spanish."

If they hadn't hung up by then I would finish with:

"If you were to make a movie sir/madam, wouldn't you make it in your native tongue?"

Oh the amount of refunds and complaints, my favorite week of work.

When Letters from Iwo Jima came out I received this question.

"Do you have Phone calls from Emo Gima?"

I also had someone lose their coupon booklet and demand that I give them their free rentals for the coupons they lost.

Also was asked if this movie was appropriate for their 12 year old son.

Someone told me "I'm not very good at reading". Which was weird, like "what the fuck?". I told him it will be hard for me to help cause I need him to read me the serial number.

Del Toro is Mexican, not Spanish.
He has made several films in English.
