Did anyone else have Comcast problems?

Maybe I'm just a deadbeat, but my Comcast bill was about $150 and three months past due. Only $10-20 of it was in the 3-month disconnect/danger zone. I was out of town for about three weeks, during which time the disconnect notice came.

When I returned home to no cable, I cheerfully went into one of their offices the next day to settle up. Well... it had been physically disconnected, so I would have to reinstall. Plus, pay the entire balance (which I would've done anyway). Plus, leave a deposit. So, all in all I was looking at about $350. For basic cable! I said, screw that, and left.

Bullshit. It's my fault for not paying my bill, but this seems excessive. When I lived back East and had Time Warner I got disconnected once, but I went in with the money and was back on by the time I got home.

Gantry wrote:That usually means that Comcast has a problem with your account and it's blocking access to the net until you call them. Basically the "set up Comcast" page comes up regardless of what website you go to. You'll typically see that when your service hasn't been paid, you try to install a new cable modem from Best Buy without calling them, etc.

It has nothing to do with an "unsupported" Firefox, typical customer service idiocy. They hijack the DNS on your cable modem until things get squared away...

The weird part is the cable bill is paid on time every month. I assumed it had something to do with some new plan they're trying to push on people. The last bill came with list of "different" services comcast can push on you, some from 24.00/month to 60.00+ just for internet access.

I have had nothing but trouble with my DVR. This is my third one in the last two months. i always have to go down to the office and pick one up because I do not want to wait a week to have them come after work and i can never seem to get an appointment on the weekends. It is always the saddest place, people waiting in line trying to figure out what the least amount that they have to pay to not have their cable shut off.
Has anyone tried dish or something other than cable?

Well, about 15 minutes of 3...it's really bad.

I just noticed that all 3 Smokey and the Bandits were available and was pretty excited about it. I don't believe that I've ever seen 3 before but 15 minutes of it for free sounds about right.

tbone wrote:Man, don't get me started on how much I fucking hate Comcast. I talked to a total of maybe 4 people throughout the entire process of getting a second cable box for my bedroom, and I think I was quoted 7 different prices from free on up to $10/mo...for the same, basic, regular (no dvr/hd) cable box. It's not expensive or anything, but jesus, how difficult can ONE SIMPLE QUESTION be to answer?

I had the same exact problem with them. Literally 4 sales reps quoted 4 different prices for the same package that I was requesting in one day. I then started calling regularly just to see what they would say. Finally, as I was about to close the deal the final (by this point 7th) rep quoted the install fee as $149. When I asked where I could find that price listed on the website he said, "holdonamoment...I could give that to you at 50% off...$75!"

I think that the deal is that they can be flexible with the plans and some of them want to charge some astronomical rate. Some of them don't care and will go down. Some of them have no idea what they are promising you and won't be able to actually deliver on their "promises." It's all very third world. Just remember that almost everything is negotiable. Almost.

Marsupialized wrote:The only problem I have with comcast is their sub par selection of movies on in demand as of late.

Howard the duck has been on there for 3 months now. Teen Wolf 2...not even Teen Wolf 1, only 2.

Come on, gimmie something here.

I would fucking kill to have those three movies (going through a nostalgia phase)

Do they have 'Over The Top'? I need to see that movie. Turning his cap back and shit.
