Getting rid of breath and other undesired vocal sounds
12I usually don't mind mouth noise but once I recorded a middle-aged coffee shop lesbian (completely fair and true description) who smacked her lips between every line in every verse of every song.
Laa Laa Laa SMACK! LAAAAA Laa Laa...
Needless to say I had to do a lot of cutting.
You could still hear it in the guitar mic

13Are you using a compressor when you record vocals? Heavy compression can make breathing-in noises sounds really loud.
But yeah, listen to the vocals with the other stuff, too. A lot of noises disappear in the mix.

Clearly the big factor is that I perform vocals and classical guitar with little to no instrumentation added. Breath is not an issue but rather the sound of spit here and there...fuck it, I'm not worried anymore. thanks for comments.

15the grossest mouth noise i've ever heard is that vile lip-smacking sound roger waters makes when he sings. it's especially prominent on the 'final cut' album, and is only one of the many things about pink floyd that literally makes my skin crawl.
