This record is fucking brillant. And hardly anyone bought it. I think it's OOP, and it shouldn't be. Every time I find a copy of it I buy it for someone.
I wish they were still around, because the time I saw them play (they very rarely played gigs) it was fucking incredible.
Ubercat, were you at that show? For some reason I remember you being there.

The Brass Ensemble is an 8 person group, 7 of whom are the sons of Phil Corhan, who was part of Sun Ra's Arkestra. The Ensemble started in Chicago, playing as a family, before the sons moved to Queens. A friend of mine put out those two 10"s, and has told some incredible stories of how unique these men are. They all live together, work together, perform, travel, etc. I think that is evident in their playing.
I can't think of any jazz ensembles like Hypnotic. They started together, and remain that way, unlike most of the ad hoc arrangements typically found in the jazz world. And these are 7 brothers. It's gotta be crazy in that house...
Here's a couple interesting performances:

Speaking of Phil Corhan, I was searching to see if anyone has mentioned this record yet:
Mississippi Records just re-released it. Salut!

They got one of the coveted "Music Under New York" permits, and they can be found in the Union Square subway station, by the 4/5/6 platform.
One of the best things about going shopping at Trader Joe's is going to my train through that entrance, and just listening to them for about 5 minutes before going home.

3260Speed, Glue & Shinki S/T - Search For Love
Psychedelic Rock from Japan Circa 1972. The drummer was an AWOL US Army soldier in Japan, the guitarist is Shinki Chen from Foodbrain. It's more straightforward period rock that is more reminescent of Cream, Deep Purple, and perhaps Robin Trower than it is Les Rallizes Denudes nodded out, fucked up ambience.
That being said, it's not a direct rip off on British bands of the time, and can hold it's own. --I think that this stuff may have had more than a little influence on Acid Mothers.
Sounds like it was recorded in several differant sessions. It's good stuff, but at the same time a lot of the vocals on the songs highlight why an AKG 414 can be a really shitty choice for vocals.
