I thought Y: The Last Man ended pretty decent.

Anybody read Ex Machina? It's about this guy who can talk to and control machines trying to be, but mostly failing, a superhero. He ends up preventing the second plane hitting the World Trade Center. He gives up being a superhero and wins the New York's mayoral race because of 9-11, thinking he can do more good in the world going that route. So the book follows him around as a retired superhero who's now New York's mayor.

Good stuff. With Y over with, this is now my favorite Brian K. Vaugn book.

Jeff Smith's Bone

Thanks to lord god eBay, I have recently acquired the entire short run of one of my favorite Marvel comics from when I was younger: 'Machine Man'

Also, thanks to the Google, the Wikipedia, and more the eBay, I plonked down for the even shorter-lived run of totally weird-ass and barely related to its namesake '2001: A Space Odyssey', as it turns out this is where the Machine Man character originated (had not known that before...)

It finally occurs to me after all these years why I always had felt drawn a little more to the Marvel universe than DC, and one partial answer is Jack (motherfuckin') Kirby!

I am also a complete sucker for cutesy stuff like Larry Marder's 'Tales Of The Beanworld'

Still love me some Matt Feazell - I couldn't live without the book 'Ert!'

I have no idea what real comics nerds love these days (until reading this thread, I suppose)

I'm probably forgetting a ton of shit I want to mention.

I need more 70's Marvel shit back in my life - especially some Avengers.

I never really liked Machine Man until they revamped the character for Next Wave: Agents of H.A.T.E. They made him the comic relief snobbish robot that thinks he's better than humans. The comic was pretty good, it was basically Warren Ellis ripping on everything; comics, politics, terrorism etc. Like a more slapstick Transmetropolitan.

They're using that same version of Machine Man as a supporting character in Ms. Marvel right now. He and Sleepwalker, one of the lamest characters Marvel ever came up with, are brought in as her backup on SHIELD missions. Also good stuff.

During the few years in the '90's when Valiant was around, they got the rights to and put out Magnus Robot Fighter. They made him the descendant of two of the characters from Harbinger.

I don't know if you know, but Jack Kirby worked at DC after he quit Marvel in the 70's. I could be wrong, but I think The Forever People, The New Gods, Mister Miracle...and I think Superman's Pal; Jimmy Olson. I don't think any of it was as good as the things he did at Marvel. If you're a fan of his art, check out Jose Ladron, who pretty much aped his style. He did a great run on Cable in the '90's.

Comix-rated. Seemed less pervy than buying a jazz mag and the illustrations were filthy as sin. Jose Maqueros was the artist and I miss him like some folks miss their childhood...a whole range of comics beautifully drawn...sigh. One of the artists, Vince Ray, is quite popular now I believe.
