When I was 17 I was planning on going to Lounge Ax to see the Jesus Lizard.

There was some band called Breadwinner opening for them.

Now as many of you know, lots of shows in Chicago have an age restriction - sometimes 18 and over, some times 21 and over. This Lounge Ax show was like that. And as you also know, many times teenagers get wrapped up in their own social drama and end up showing late for things, if at all.

Fortunately for me I was able to sneak in early and it was the best show I've ever seen in my life.

OH SORRY TO SPOIL THE THREAD.

= Justin

PS - By sneak in I'm talking about passing for the right age. Of course I paid for the show. I'm not about ripping off LA.

Kathleen Hanna is an example of how "social networking" in the business world translates into underground music culture. That is the only reason any of us have heard her name and the only reason any of us (soup) like her.

It is like you have some kind of syndrome that makes you unable to say something rude--- if it is about a woman.

I saw Johnny Cash the last time he played at the Carter Fold before he died.

Now the thread is ruined, Justin.

I seem to remember Breadwinner being a decent live band. Saw them once or twice, back in the day.

I did have an opportunity to see Johnny Thunders about 2 years before he died. I think it was the last show he played in Chicago. This really annoying guy who used to hang out with my downstairs neighbors had an extra ticket , but I passed on it because I didn't want to have to deal with him.

Back in about 1991, my pot dealer once offered me a ticket to see James Brown with him (for free!) but I had something more important to do on that evening, apparently.

Some friends of mine drove to Chicago to see the Minutemen at the Metro on their tour supporting the album 3 Way Tie (For Last) but I didn't go, probably because I was broke.

You haven't a clue as to what you are speaking about.

I say rude shit all the time about women, there are tons of shitty women with big targets on their back. Kathleen Hanna is not one of them.
Kathleen Hanna has worked hard her whole life to build a community of musicians and artists around her, when she got a little bit of notoriety she used it to lift all kinds of other people up with her. She talks tirelessly about the people in art she admires and who have helped her get to where she's at, read any interview with her....she is not bragging about how cool she is, she's talking about all the other artists she thinks are cool and worthwhile. Go find ANY interview with her and read it.

I have stacks of zines she made with her own hands, they are filled with art, ideas and writing in them that would blow your mind. There's more substance to her than 99% of idiot male musicians out there.

You speak about her 'social networking' or whatever like people speak about women all over the world 'Oh she's just got that job because of who she's fucking' or 'She's only well known because her boyfriend is famous'
Fuck that shit, man. That women has worked her ass off for a long time, gotten shit on by assholes and punk rockers from coast to coast. And she came out on top, she got her point across.

She's been involved in some of the best records I have ever heard going way back. The first Bikini Kill EP just may be the best record ever made. The first Le Tigre record is spotless.

There are very few people out there I see absolutely nothing to criticize them about. She's one of them.

Well, aside from writing a song for Paris Hilton's album. I'll just assume she did it as a joke, or at least used the money for something cool.

Joe Strummer. St. Ann's, Brooklyn.

I didn't really enjoy "Rock Art..." and hadn't yet heard the new lp, "Global A Go-Go". Fast forward three weeks and "Global" is my favorite record. I am on holiday for his next NY stint. "I'll definitely catch him next time."

I.
Blew.
It.
