Skilled guitar players, whether you like em or not.

that damned fly wrote:skill just means you blew a lot of time on it. which means you probably didn't have a lot of friends. certainly not a lot of lady friends. probably a fair amount of dough blown on lessons too.

doesn't mean you're making art.

i can't think of one skilled player aside from jimi that i like. even then, jimi bores me from time to time.

What an unfortunate shame that he passed away and will never learn of his tendency to bore you (from time to time).

I also like the first statement, seems to be spoken from experience.

Skilled guitar players, whether you like em or not.

I've found that a lot of times that virtuoso guitar player have absolutely no sense of taste, and do nothing really interesting. Stevie Ray Yawn, Steve Vai, and of course the most blatant example of musical douchebaggery to walk the planet, Micheal Angelo Batio.

None of them really do anything musically adventurous, or truly expressive.

Thatt being said there are also some really good guitar players that did some really good work in their prime, but now pretty much suck completely, they choose not to burn brightly.

In this camp, I would place:

Al DiMeola
John McLaughlin
Last vids I saw of these guys, they were both playing horrible Kenny G. smoooothe Jazz shit on acoustics.

Carlos Santana
Eric Clapton
No Kenny G shit here, but still, what they play isn't much better.
