I agree completely.
I didn't know Paul Schrader wrote it.
Of course, when I saw it, I don't think I knew who Paul Schrader was.
Wasn't William Devoe in it? Is that how you even spell his name?

A good movie. The sleazy bordertown/bordello where they have the final shoot-out is still a pretty vivid image for me. As is that fucking garbage disposer scene.

Okay, William Devane . . . shit . . . I didn't go to the fucking youtube clip, I just started writing . . . I was already surprised enough to see that ANYBODY remembered this flick . . .

He also carries a great number of other strange and remarkable movies, and the quality is generally pretty good.

Oh, and William Devane is great. Anyone who can go from playing JFK to a stone psycho Vietnam vet is OK in my book. Tommy Lee Jones, well, that goes without saying.

Remember watching this with the old man when it came out. Low budge, a little clunky in parts, but fun.

There is a point where Devane has finally located the guys who put his hand in the dispose-all unit. He calls up Jones, his Nam buddy, and gives him the news. Jones says 'I'll go get my gear.' Something like that. I was explaining to a guy at the bar a few months back that, when I think of a good friend, I think of someone who responds immediately to your request for assistance by saying 'I'll go get my gear.'

Off topic, but in the Devil in a Blue Dress, Easy Rawlins, played by Denzel Washington, asks a neighbor what one does when a friend (Mouse, played by Don Cheadle) who is bad. The neighbor says 'A friend is a good thing to have.'

great great film. some wanker taped over my copy of it. good to see it again.

I love it. The film is soooo bleak and grimey. Both Devane and TL Jones rule in this.
