man, this whole leaking of these tracks in FASCINATING. riveting. possibly the most interesting thing the internet has ever offered me, other than 'two girls one cup.'

seriously though, take all these "multi-track masters" that have leaked. marvin gaye, queen, nirvana... hell- i would even recommend everyone check out "genie in a bottle." dead serious- go get those tracks and check them out.

listening to all of these- it's a study. those queen and gaye recordings are stunning. that's what a vocalist with talent sounds like. and queen, "bohemian rhapsody..." what is that, like 50 or 60 tracks? dude, they didn't have automated faders then.
BAKER: "yeah, just finished mixing that new queen track. took me,
my brother, two hoookers and a squid nearly four hours."

then listen to nirvana. those are just bare bones rock band type stuff. no theatrics, just great songs. and you can get as critical as you want with them. what i took away from those tracks was how delicate you ahve to be when blending a raw guitar/bass track with one with effects.

so i'm just saying it's one of the most educational things i've had the pleasure of hearing in my recording career. anyone should jump at the chance to hear these. and if you don't condone it, then turn the other way and just pretend it's like any other album leaked onto the internet.

As fascinating as this may be to some, I'm in the 'ringtone' group. I could list dozens of other albums I'd rather hear individual tracks from than In Utero. Though the one thing this does show, is that nine times out of ten the person who primarily dealt with the recording of an album should also mix the album, and give insight into mastering. It's about time more record companies began 'listening' to the albums they're marketing. FM radio is being overtaken by higher quality satellite radio and internet downloads. Mixing and mastering should change as such. Or maybe it is their plan to remaster and reissue each and every album to hit all audiences??

I can't help but think that the intrigue in bootlegging live shows has something to do with the listeners curiosity in how a band actually sounds 'in the nude'. I may be talking for myself, but albums that sound great to me have never caused me to look elsewhere for more engaging recordings. However, almost all of the time that I find myself listening to a bootleg, it's in hopes of hearing something 'more human' than what was on the released recording.
Don't get chumpatized!
