just got it off ebay last week...its amazingly loud...dangerously loud

within my price range, its the closest i could come to the power sections of the hiwatt/laney/orange amps i lust for so highly

Well, that sounds pretty awesome. What are you using as a preamp? RustyBox?

It sounds good but im already wondering how different it would sound in the dietz design.

ive used them in a kustom tuck n' roll 2x15 cab and i think they sound alot better/more efficent in the dietz design

it's a decent speaker, and it'll probably sound alright in any box, but the dietz/diesel/tl606 is the box for that speaker. it was built to the theile-small spec's for that specific speaker. so unless it's in that box or a slightly different shaped box with the same internal dimensions and/or volume it's not going to be working to it's maximum efficiency.

speaker swapping can get tricky like that, especially in bass cab's (i guess...i've only worked with bass cabs, and from my reading, swapping out speakers is a little more common for guitarists.)

OK, my TL606 project is coming along nicely with most of the building work done and I'm starting think about what material to line the inside of the cabinet with to prevent standing waves. Looks like the Dietzs are lined with Owens Corning fibreglass, which as far as I am aware is not available here in the UK.

Would Cabinet Damping Fibre like this do the trick: http://wduk.worldomain.net/acatalog/Speaker_Parts.html
or is 1" too thin?

Or is 3" of rockwool the way to go? I understand that different types of glass fibre insulation have varying absorbtion characterisitics throughout the frequncy spectrum depending on the thickness, density and the way they are fixed/mounted. Surely all this could have quite a drastic effect on the way the cab sounds. Stapling the stuff to the side of the cabinet would normally result in poor bass absorption. Does anyone know what frequencies would be likely to cause a standing wave in this size of cabinet. I'd also be interested to hear what materials (and quantities) other DIY dietz builders have used for this purpose.

So my painfully slow dial-up connection has kept me from posting pics of my dietz dimensioned cab, however you can here it here;

I run a 15" ampeg w/ the dietz to balance the brightness of my particular cab. The recording slightly favored the Ampeg, however I like the overall result. DR Highbeams + EV speakers make a very well represented bass tone. My rig sounds bright when the bass is picked softly, but when I whale on it like I usually do, the mids/bass comes thru pretty well. Thanks you Howl Street!!!! See what you think.............
