I don't think it will torpedo his campaign. Unless Iseman talks, it will fade. Unless there are pics or videos. Americans need pics or videos to get excited. They had pics on Gary Hart. Currently, this story uses too many old fashioned things called 'words' to have great legs as front page news.
Seconded. I wouldn't be surprised if the McCain campaign leaked the story themselves so it would be resolved now rather than later.

56If the Times really wanted to sandbag McCain, they would have held this story until the summer, when it could have done more damage to him in the general election.
