I missed it. I was watching the Cobra/Ferrari Wars on DVD.
Was it good?

I think it was good. It was really funny, and it didn't really present "both sides" of the gay marriage debate, in the same way that shows about circumglobal navigation don't present "both sides" of the shape-of-the-earth debate.

Politics aside, I think it was a better-than-average episode, but I'm one of these unusual fellows that thinks that even the worse-than-average Simpsons episodes are really good, with 2 or 3 exceptions. I laughed harder and more often than I usually do.

I'd let you know who was gay, but I don't want to give it away, in case somebody taped it to watch tonight or something. I'm sure you can Google it.

Me too. Even the bad Simpsons episodes are better than most of the shit on TV now. Nay sayers be damned.

As for the Crap/Not Crap, I think they may have been spooked by the recent Postcards From Buster caper and were just playing it safe (or making fun of it entirely). Simpson's episodes have had gay subject matter before with little fanfare.

I also have a high tolerance for the less than stellar episodes. Maybe they've jumped the shark but I still love them.

Anyway, I missed last nights episode, and this was the first I'd heard of the whole hoo-ha so I went digging for some info. Not trying to turn this thread into anything political, but reading this made me nearly vomit on my laptop:

Just as they announce same-sex marriages will become legal in England later this year (I wonder if Bush and Blair chatted about that?)

Something tells me that anyone dumb enough to oppose gay marriage probably never noticed the gay jokes in previous episodes. For example the episode homers-phobia when Marge says "I can hear you biting you pillow".

Not to mention when Smithers tried to tell Burns he loved him "Oh, who am I kidding? The boathouse was the time". The boathouse being traditionally where homosexual encounters occur in literature.

On the Simpsons, what ever happened to them being subtle with their jokes and plots. It seems like they are sitting there going "Ok We've done gay marriage, health care, Mel Gibson, what else are people talking about..."
