I will also like to talk much smack of dreamhost, but one good thing of dreamhost -- if you know someone who already has such an account, they can host for you additional domains and sub-accounts for no additional cost (providing you don't go over their fairly high bandwidth limit). So if you find such a generous fool who will share with you, and don't require 100% uptime, you can get what you are looking for for free -- or perhaps you would like to buy this fool a pizza to console him for being on dreamhost.

i've got the grid-service hosting, which is $200/year. so that's what... 17 bucks a month or so... each new domain is an additional $15/year, as is a domain transfer. the domain transfer process was reasonably painless - if you actually know what you're doing, it'll probably be completely painless.

the fees are a little expensive, but being able to monitor/tweak all of my sites from one admin page/ftp site is awesome. being able to have 1000+ downloads of a 120mb album in a week - knowing that i can have 4000 more without seeing any overage surcharge - is awesome too. customer service is also outstanding, and 24/7.

i use dreamhost, they're great. you can also find a promocode really easily (google it), which i did, and get the first year for only $69ish bucks + free domain registration and set-up (500 gigs, 2 gig increase every mo). they've been great for me and their cs have been nothing but super helpful and quick to respond to any questions i have. haven't experienced any downtime. naysayers be damned, i vote dreamhost.

I have 3 domains that I pay about $80 a year for each - so that doesn't seem insanely expensive to me - in fact it sounds pretty reasonable. The convenience of administering them from one admin page is a huge bonus.

Thanks for the info.

I went with Dreamhost. I haven't had any complaints, but I haven't been using it for anything brutal or nothing. Basically a place to put files and stuff. I still never set up the message forum I was looking to make. The Traynor newsgroup has been way better since it's now lightly moderated, and Lado actually started up their own message forum. So what do I need to waste time with that nonsense for?

No gripes with Dreamhost here.
