Critically lauded albums that do nothing for you

I wouldn't say that, but it is quite overrated. The Clash in general have never done as much for me as everyone acts like they should.

Also, the only Elvis Costello album I've ever listened to at this point, My Aim Is True, never did a damn thing for me...people have problems with Bob Dylan's voice, when this gargling motherfucker is recording albums? Gah...I can't stand his voice. The vocals were also my biggest problem with Horses.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

I checked out the 2005 Rhino reissue out of the library and I've been listening to it on and off for the past few weeks. Is there something I'm missing here? Am I just not rock 'n' roll enough to feel the awesome everyone says this album is? I want to say this album totally rules right there with my other albums that I think are winners, but then I'd be a liar.

...It can take some people a while to get into it. Lester Bangs hated it on first listen, and he championed it with a vengeance later. I hated The Piper at the Gates of Dawn on first listen, but I love that album now, and Syd Barrett is one of my favorite songwriters/guitar abusers in rock history, period.

Give it time.

Maybe if he wasn't so batty.

I can't dictate personal taste. my favorite floyd albums are Animals and Piper, with Meddle or Wish You Were Here at third.

places where the later albums have it over the barrett stuff is in rhythmic sophistication (never one of floyd's strong suits, sometimes I find Piper hard to enjoy cause the rhythm section is so weak) and production (Piper sounds like it was produced on the cheap).
