Zappa's Freak Out doesn't do much for me but a lot of people rave about it. Some of the later Mothers records are much better - eg Weasels.

I agree re: A Love Supreme. It's kinda dull compared to Trane's other records that followed. ALS was from late 1964 but almost everything from 1965 is more interesting, particularly Sun Ship, Transition and First Meditations. I even prefer Crescent from the same year as ALS.
Much of Husker Du, at least lyrically, appears to be juvenilia.
