See, the thing is I love Van Der Graaf Generator too...or at least most of the stuff I have of theirs...so I really don't know what it is. (And I adore The Fall, obviously.) Springsteen just feels corny to me a lot of the time, and inconsistent. "Born To Run" is a great song, but I almost never listen to it because I'm almost never in the mood for that kind of chest-out, West Side Story-of-rock-and-roll type stuff. When I am, though, it's great. (And even then, I'll never listen to Born In The USA. '80's synth = bleecchh.)

It isn't that they do nothing to me, but whenever I hear them I think about how much better they could be - as if they're SO CLOSE to being totally brilliant. but they aren't.

Never said any of it was overrated. Just that it does nothing for me, like the thread asks. Isolated moments on all of those are all that really get me going. Otherwise, it's Limp City

The Sargent Pepper's album I always thought was way overrated. I don't think it's held up well at all. Their early stuff is way better.

I think that A Love Supreme is grossly overrated and that Kind Of Blue is underrated despite all the apparent adulation it has received from critics.

Never seen so much great music mentioned in one thread - until now.
