For anyone who's interested - www.what.cd is a private tracker and (apparently) is pretty decent now. A current invite procedure is to go to the irc channel "irc.what.cd/what.cd-invites" and type !queue. They'll ask you a few of questions about music transcoding (e.g. highest bitrate, can you transcode from one format to another).
