Snow in London! We made a Snow Monster.

It never snows in Nottingham, even when it's snowing everywhere else in the country :c

I was once given a detailed explanation of this phenomenon from my old boss, a mumbling yet affable alcoholic publican who swore like the best of 'em. It went something like this:

"Never fuckin' snows in Nott'm... mumble mumble mumble our kid. Warm air blows off mumble mumble the fuckin' hills intit, mumble mumble fuckin' snow never. And the river, the fuckin' river mumble bastard river, warm fucking air blows right round that fuckin' corner you see where I'm talking about our kid? Yeah mumble mumble no fuckin' snow. The bastards."

So there you go.

When I was a student it snowed in Nottingham - winter 1992. I remember it well. I thought one of my ears was going to fall off frozen to the ground, it was that cold. All of that area where the Goose Fair is held was covered in lovely snow. Tru dat.

Boo! Snow Monster has melted.

It's drab and grey, slightly raining, about 50 degrees and humid. Contrasts nicely with the rusty, dirty buildings, filthy concrete, pigeons and ashen junkies walking around my neighborhood today.

for once it's fucking nice in Chicago, yesterday was the first decent day since Halloween

Just drove back to Chicago from Champaign. The rain and lightning were bad--like everybody drives 35 with their hazards on and gawk at the overturned semi bad--but the craziest thing by far was the flash hailstorm. Thank god we'd pulled off the highway so my girlfriend could pee. When it started coming down, I pulled into a gas station parking lot to try to get under the pump canopy. So many people were trying to cram themselves beneath the thing that I was only able to get half my car in cover. It seems unbelievable, but some of the hail balls were fully as large as tennis balls. Maybe even baseballs. It sounded and felt as if 20 people were taking claw hammers to my vehicle. I was sure that the windshield was fin, but somehow it held. Unfortunately, I do have about 2 dozen dents in my roof and hood now (FUCK). I am glad that it wasn't worse though, and that my car wasn't totally destroyed. I can imagine that some of those ice chunks could have killed someone if they were walking to a store or something and took a direct hit to the head.

AM 780 weather said that Champaign was reporting GRAPEFRUIT sized hail. What the fuck?! Any confirmations? Anyone else see anything today?

FYI, hail damage is covered under your comprehensive insurance, and filing a claim for it will not cause your premiums to increase, as it is an act of nature.
That being said, aren't hail storms fucking wild? We get one or two here every year, but this year we have had 4 of them in different parts of town. I am told we entered an El Nino weather pattern this year, which usually means much stormier weather than the La Nina, which we had been in for the last few years. I don't know much about all that, but I do follow the storm reports and it is a near record year for damaging storms.
