Orson Welles wouldn't have directed Touch of Evil without Heston requesting him to. That almost makes up for his later conservate douch baggery. Almost.

The guy was a WWII hero, made some decent films and continued to main friendships with Hollywood "librerals". He seems to have at least more integrity than Michael Moore or George Clooney.

I guess Kirk Douglas, Paul Newman and Clint Eastwood are the last of the old school of Hollywood tough guys now.

Young Charlton is very different than old Charlton.

I remember being surprised to see photos of him at MLK jr's speech in washington. He was very progressive at one point in his life.

However, like lots of people, he started to drift towards the right wing as he got older.
