Got a Pork Pie 'Big-Black' snare today

Those are the bees knees. I played one in a store and just bought it 5 minutes later. Kick azz. All of my other snare drums are old, but the Pork Pie Big Black stays.

I had it 2 years before I noticed it said Big Black on the side.

Yes, Sir. It was cheap too ($285 plus tax). I tried out a lot of snares today, including a $900 (used!) Gretsch, a 8" deep acrylic (forget the brand), Pearl Sensitone, two brass DW's, and a Manu Katche Yamaha signature snare. I would say that the BB had the most low-end and also the least amount of 'ping'. The only apparent downside is that it's made in Taiwan. But whatever...

I am such a geek.... but, here goes: The Big Black is a clone of the Ludwig Black Beauty. John Bonham played the Supraphonic LM402, which was an aluminum alloy in those same dimensions. (6.5 x 14)

I'd love to have one of those Big Blacks. They're bad ass.

Well, the pictures I took when I got the Vistas really sucked. They're indoor and the drums look just like regular black wood drums. Seriously, I just want one honest-to-God sunny day (when I'm not working!) and then I can get it done. I was going to post these crappy shots anyway but then I had trouble finding a photo hosting site that made any sense to my little monkey brain.

They're cheap too.

edit: I also spotted a Zildjian K-Series 16" hi-hat pair !!!!! They sounded incredible. Must have.
