Act: Listening to the same song over and over

These songs that you need to play over and over? I call them "twofers," however two is just the minimum. My mother was the queen of the twofer. Every Christmas I'd be subjected to all-day plays of Charles Brown's "Please Come Home For Christmas." The idea of a song being so awesome that nothing else matters aside from hearing that song again immediately is not crap.

Melvins - Antioxidote

British Sea Power - Carrion

Charles Mingus - Bird Calls

...these all beg for repeated listenings. Sometimes the visions in my head need an extended soundtrack.

I have done this, but I feel it's a bit like eating frosting with a spoon right out of the can... sooner than you can imagine when you first began eating it, you may get sick of it and never want to eat it again.

I can recall being in the back of one of my pal's honda, in which he had installed a "system" (not for the traditional hip hop or obscene latin music, he did it because he had no other way to fully express his need for retail electronics and a burgeoning bank account), and I demanded that he play "Video Killed the Radio Star" over and over. I should mention we were quite stoned. While that stereo had a dreadful quality to it's reproduction of sound in most ordinary circumstances, these were clearly not ordinary circumstances.

The stereo had no real defined mid frequency response, but the highs were bright and clear (if a tad hyped), and the lows were chest rattling yet not flabby. This, in my stoned head-space, was like being injected with pure electricity... Very odd. He was into regrettable metal and whatever the hell... but he had this off the shelf 80's mix cd, and it was enough already with the fucking Faith No More.

10 or so years on, I don't think I need to hear that song ever again. I am quite sure I did not need to hear it that night either.
