My guitarist blew his Laney tube amp the other day and we used the YBA200 as a replacement. Holy fuck, it sounds amazing for guitar. It does stay bassy even after you remove all the bass, but nothing a decent EQ pedal couldn't wipe away. I'm not sure if I'll sell it right now. I kinda want my guitar player to use it for awhile.

Highly recommended for guitar! Not so much for bass.

Caix. With you having blown your YBA200 at least a couple times, and also my MonoBlock (and are there any others?)... and now your guitarist has blown a Laney (which model, btw?) and can be expected to soon blow your YBA200, can I submit that you guys are doing something terribly wrong? Seriously, how can you kill so many amps in such a short time?!?!?!?!

No caix, I haven't had a chance to check out what went south with the MonoBlock yet. I've got an Evil Twin and a GK800RB ahead of it in the repair queue.

Unrelated to the thead topic, but related to the last few posts... we just tracked the new CR stuff, and in the tone quest, I tried several different amps for my dirt sound. The faux-Marshall and two real Marshalls (late 70's JMPs, one master volume and one non-master volume) were all beaten out by... the 50W Laney Pro-Tube single-channel master volume amp. I didn't see that coming, I figured I would've ended up using the JMP master volume (aka the original JCM800), but the Laney outperformed it.

I bought the 30W version not too long ago, but haven't got it tubed up yet, cause it's my first amp designed to run 6V6s so I don't have any surplus tubes to drop in. I'm expecting it to replace the faux-Marshall in my live rig, assuming it's at the right volume when cranked.

Laney is kinda awesome stuff, I've found, and apparently can be capable of out-Marshalling the Marshalls for about a third or quarter of the price. And for whatever it's worth, adding that 4th preamp tube is a fairly common Marshall mod, making the amp more like a stock Laney. More complex gain staging and such.

I put in about 30 hours with an XXL distortion and Super Duper in front of it, and had no problems.

If I remember right, I got the head with a bonus Katana (actual sword) for around $300 last summer. Maybe a little less even.

That was way off-topic, I apologize. But I've been progressively loving the Laneys more and more since I picked up the 50W ProTube, and the LC15 which is hella fun for 3am apartment bedroom metal. And of course I'm still a fan of the VC30 for light-dirt sounds, though I haven't owned one for a couple years now.

I have three Laneys now and owned two others previously, and have yet to have a single problem (knock on wood) with any of them.

I need to shut up. But did I mention how much I dig on the Laneys?
