"I'm Gonna DJ" is the catchiest song they've written in years, despite these awful lyrics:

All you R.E.M. haters can just go bite a pillow.

I don't like R.E.M.'s music at all. Like none of it. Still, those are some pretty good lyrics right there.

Are there any other people who like the new album here? I haven't listened to it. I'm glad to see they kept it under sixty minutes this time.

R.E.M. just seems hopelessly out of touch. I can't imagine that I would find their new album produced by "Jacknife Lee" (or whatever his name is) terribly compelling.

I do think they were interesting through Up. That album is from 1998 for those of you keeping score at home.

as far as jangly, non-confrontational guitar music goes i'd have to say i prefer the posies, but then again i don't listen to either very often.

still i can't give REM a crap. just doesn't seem fair.

I really like the new record a lot.

Other interesting lyrics from the record- first two lines from "Houston" (their song about Hurricane Katrina relocation) :

"If the storm doesn't kill me, the government will."

By the way, REM never owned the 40 Watt.

Don't know where anyone got that impression. The 40 Watt was originally opened by Curtis Crowe, drummer from Pylon. There have been several owners since. The accusation that REM is somehow responsible for the nonpayment of some band is laughable. You may have gotten dicked at the 40 Watt, but it wasn't by REM. The 40 Watt is an independent business with its own owners and issues.

However, I got some cold, soggy fries at the Chick-fil-a in Athens the other day. I blame Mike Mills.

chick-filet is some AWFUL shit. but usually their fries are ok.

r.e.m... have really recorded not too terribly much of worth, but Murmur and Reckoning are good. Some great songs on those albums. I kind of jumped ship after hearing Fables of the Reconstruction and dislike pretty much everything they did in the '90's. still, I need to hear Lifes Rich Pageant (pretentious title), so I'll abstain from voting.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

Try the grits!!

Make sure to get Chronic Town, SecondEdition. I really, really like R.E.M...and yet Chronic Town and Murmur are so good that I don't want to listen to much else by them anymore.

Is populist 'End of Radio', non?

Is funny how this happens sometimes.
