Really Good Beers

Wow. I haven't seen that image in about 20 years.

BTW I just got this book from Amazon:

It's about how to replicate popular commercial beers. There are a lot of interesting recipes in there and it would be a great book for a beginner who's just learning how to brew. All the recipes are relatively easy, because they malt extract to make the wort instead of going through the trouble of the mash process.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with it. It's true that you can make excellent beer using malt extract.

(I already edited my post to remove any derogatory tone towards extract brewing)

If you want to make beer the real way though, you have to mash the grains. People have been brewing beer for several millennia and malt extract has only been around since the late 20th Century. Commercial breweries do not use malt extract, for the simple reasons that it's much more cost-effective and you can get much better control over the colors, flavors and consistency of your beer when you control the entire process.
