Tim, the way the Cubs have been playing they look like they may have a winning season after a streak of 100 losing seasons. Do you think they'll keep playing ball like they are or do you think everything will fall apart for them like it always does?

Tim I have the same questions but with my substitutions in bold.
it's not the length, it's the gersch

Keep it up! I'm trying to loose some weight too, but it was actually way easier when I was totally out of shape with no muscles whatsoever. Now I ride bike a lot, work out 2-3 times a week.. and I loose very little to no weigh, even though I obviously have more fat on my body then in the summer time. My legs start to look good though, than you bike. Time to go on a serious diet, I guess. Yuck.

Hey Tim, please recommend a Chicago restaurant I may have overlooked. Thanks.

La Fonda, on Broadway. Maybe 5800 block or so. Great Latin grill place.

Also, I have this weird white residue on the temples of my eyeglasses. What can I do about this, if anything?

I imagine this is salt, from your sweat.

Don't sweat so goddamn much. Failing at that, I guess I'd clean them regularly. Maybe if you use alcohol or something, it will discourage salt from collecting there.

Or you could get Silhouette glasses. I love mine, even though all the fucking neocon fucks in the Bush administration got them three months after I did.

Hey Tim I put my cats on a diet but am not seeing any results. How long do you think I should have to wait before adjusting it?

Oh, shit, I fucked something up WAY back in this thread. My wife kept after me to fix it, and I was all passive aggressive about it and didn't.

You feed the fucking cat in the morning, right? Then you let it graze all day. That's how they eat. I fucked that part up.

Then the next morning, any food left, you reduce the portion by that much food.

Keep doing that. That's the one cat 'diet' we ever used. no midday feedings, but they keep grazing on whatever is left from morning.

Anyway, I don't feed the cats, so I don't know how long you should wait.

Hey Tim, related question - in a two-cat household, what is a practical strategy to put one fatass cat on a diet, whilst not penalizing the other?

We have had no luck at this. We have one giant, bear-like cat and one slim cat. Don't know how I would do it. Steve might know.

I managed a coffeeshop that was backed by Intelligensia and I can say that they really take their shit seriously. I would constantly have to check the temperature of the water the espresso machine was pumping out, be sure that it was pouring at a decent time and so on. The key is when you want a good shot of espresso you want it to pour in the frame of 15 - 18 seconds if you are over it's bitter, under it's piss water.

Yep.

They have their shit together, Intelligentsia, even if they have an unfortunate name.

Hy Tm,

I'm beginning to enjoy cheeses, I'm curious as to what you recommend.

I don't know shit about cheese. I don't really like it. I have had a few hardcore cheeses that I liked.

This Sicilian stuff with dead worms in it, that burned the hell out of my tongue, it was so acidic. That was pretty good.

But I don't know shit about cheese.

Tim, the way the Orioles have been playing they look like they may have a winning season after a streak of 10 losing seasons. Do you think they'll keep playing ball like they are or do you think everything will fall apart?

They'll probably fall apart. Hell of a division they have to play in, so winning season or not, it should be over in September.

The Cubs could have a winning season. That could happen. It happens sometimes.

They will not win the World Series. In that sense, everything will fall apart, but things have been apart for the Cubs for a while if that is the yardstick.

I did a bunch of working out last year and now it's all gone to shit and my stomach is fat as fuck. If you come up with a convincing diet please don't keep it to yourself.

Super light on simple carbs. No starch or sugar! It will work. Just avoid the shitty food.

And you got to lift weights and shit to lose weight. Cardio may be good for you, but it won't do shit for losing weight.

Lift weights. Start light and don't try to be all macho about it. Get your muscles going so they burn up the shit you eat.

Also, don't be a fucking pig except sometimes. I am a pig on occasion, just only once a week or so.

That is my diet.

hi tim,

I'm really slim and don't need to loose any weight, maybe gain some. Anyhow, people always tell me that in ten years I'll start getting fat. I think that they're just being jealous that I'm slim and they're not. I've never been a chubby one or anything. Always slim.

Am I going to get fat in ten years? I'm eating whatever I want to and I believe I have good genes. My dad has a little bit of a belly, my mom is kinda thin(not skin and bones thin), they're both around 60.
My eldest brother isn't fat, but he got a little bit chubby in the last few years, when he was my age, he looked just like me. Maybe he gained some weight because he stopped smoking? I've heard it happens when you stop smoking.
My other two brothers are muscular, so they're not fat, but they exercise a little.

What do you think? I think it's just people being pricks. I know some people who are really thin and in their 40's. One of them is a woman who's been through 3 births.

What do you think? You don't have to answer that, because I don't really mind if I'm going to be fat or not.

thanks!

Hey Tmidgett,

I really hope this finds you well!

I'm having a hard time approaching a bandmate about our creative process. Some of his guitar ideas are very out of left field and 'unfinished', so for me, it's hard to know what to try and do with 'em. I think he got bored with drums. I really like the guy, but he's the quiet, brooding-type and difficult to get a read on--when to push when to let up.

Btw, I was driving across Texas today and when I saw a billboard for "exotic jerky," I thought of a post you made somewhere on here about someone else on here who sent you some jerky in the mail. Just thought you'd like to know that. I'll probably stop next time I'm down that way and haven't missed my exit. Anything you want me to pick up for you when I stop.

Una mille ringraziamenti!

Don't bullshit yourself--of course you mind if you are going to be fat.

Yeah, you'll get fat in ten years if you eat whatever you want, assuming you want to eat garbage like most of the rest of us do. And assuming you don't offset it with weightlifting or yoga or some kind of vigorous muscle-toning exercise.

If you don't get fat-fat, you'll get skinny-fat, which just means you'll be like ropes of dough instead of balls of dough.

It happens. You get to pull back a few times, but the farther you go, the harder it is to get back.

It's not the worst thing in the world. I know a lot of great fat people, and I have never once thought of any of them, "It's too bad (s)he is fat."

Hey Tmidgett,

I really hope this finds you well!

It does. Thanks.

He got bored with drums [...] he's the quiet, brooding-type and difficult to get a read on

Man, I am sorry. Genuinely sorry. It's enough for either of those two things to be true regarding a drummer, but both of them is not good.

I have had to deal with this combo. Quite honestly, I found the best solution was to do something else. The situation could not be fixed by me, and it wasn't going to fix itself.

Boredom with the drums is a common drummer disease.

1. Playing the drums is fucking hard. Physically and in terms of the concentration required.

2. Playing the guitar is dead easy by comparison.

3. Guitar players get to stand up front by the girls and wiggle around.

4. There are notes on the guitar, and pedals and all that shit provide a sense of endless possibility that the drums don't necessarily seem to provide.

It's also tough when a non-songwriter decides he's gonna just start 'contributing' songs at some point.

It's hard to tell someone that they are wasting your time on this front. But people who are just starting to do something should do it with some humility, you know?

Writing songs isn't rocket science, but it also takes some floundering around to figure out what the hell you want to do. Sometimes people don't get past the floundering stage and don't know that they are stuck there.

Anyway...sorry. I'm serious, that's not fun.

Btw, I was driving across Texas today and when I saw a billboard for "exotic jerky," I thought of a post you made somewhere on here about someone else on here who sent you some jerky in the mail. Hey, I'll buy any kind of jerky you can get. Armadillo, rooster, generic roadkill. Whatever. Just let me know.

Hi Tim,

What's love got to do with it?

Thanks.

It depends. Maybe not much, maybe a lot.

I'm not Tim, either. Those are very, very nice but I think they would be difficult to tailor into girl wear given the shape. This is a primary concern. Vansons fit great (I have a leather guy (vockins-grazi per la raccomandazione. Saranno i "whiskey", amico)) and maybe I should stick with them for a textile one. But I want to get to the bottom of the Andy Cohen choice before doing so.

He never got back to me, which is strange, b/c he's more geeked about motorcycles than anyone else I know, including people who have ridden their entire lives and race them and so forth.

I'll ask again.

Confidential to Tim: these are really nice.

Beth, how...you can PM/email me if you like w/price if you know it. I probably cannot afford them.

Hi, Tim.

I would pm/email you, but this thread is too great. A humble Oz regarding the mundane. The tables are $1250 for the pair. I don't know the dealer or anything, just liked them. Little Italian/Nakashima intersection, good proportions.

I cannot afford them.

Thanks for asking Andy about the jacket. I have made two other casual inquiries to people who ride and/or talk moto with him and they, surprisingly, did not know the maker. Innnteresting.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on owning a lot of books? I am starting to think it is ridiculous.

Thanks.

I am not Tim Midgett, but I recently have become resigned to mostly only keeping hardcovers of favorites, that continue to inform. I reduced my book volume by 45%, and have even re-purchased favorites in hardcover. I am 82% paperback-free. I'm sure Tim has additional thoughts.

Dear Tim Midgett,

Is it better to use many things for different things, or one thing for everything?

Thanks! Please provide examples.
