Still like 'em all.
12 Years ago though, I gave away or sold almost every CD I owned (over 100), cause they were crap.
Around that time my favorite bands were:
Pearl Jam
Tool
STP,
Alice in Chains
Soundgarden

841998...I was listening obsessively to Bedhead, Silkworm, and JRLP/DT. So..."Fucking great... I still listen to them to this day!"

86Cat Power? seems like Moon Pix was about '98. That's the first thing that comes to mind.
...but the originals used a special chip which many believe made them superior.

87Ten years ago my favorite band was the Flaming Lips. They're still making music, but I can honestly say I'm not as thrilled with their current material as I am with their older work. I'm hesitant and anxious to hear where they're headed, so I guess I can still say there's still a huge interest, but a favorite?
This weekend someone asked me to name my favorite band and I couldn't. I thought of the Flaming Lips for a minute but couldn't stand by that choice because of current developments. I then started to rattle-off a bunch of noisy-guitar-rock like Tar and the Jesus Lizard, but started to feel trapped and stuck in the past. I think after reaching a certain age the word "favorite" starts to lose its meaning, or, mutate into something all together new and different. Ten years ago I'd cut my favorite bands a lot of slack, but now I'm more critical and unfortunately judgmental, I think. "Favorite" now means something to the effect of "loved but easily hated."

88In '98, my favorite band was Hüsker Dü, followed by pre-Sandanista! Clash and, of course, Sugar.
Rounding out my '98 listening:
Idaho
Catherine Wheel
My Bloody Valentine
Ride
Slowdive
Low
Chapterhouse
Cocteau Twins
Joy Division
The Church
The Afghan Whigs
Fugazi
Burning Airlines
Jawbox
Jets To Brazil
The Promise Ring
Knapsack
I also remember being super angry and bitter because only four years previous, I could turn on the radio and MTV and hear Sonic Youth, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr. and Nirvana only to deteriorate step-by-step into H.O.R.D.E. crap, Lilith Fair crap, kiddie punk, "third-wave ska," then finally nu-metal crap, and I wondered exactly how many more degrees of craptitude would happen before we hit rock bottom. (I had completely tuned out before mall-goth emo hit a few years later.)
Sure, I had a choice not to listen to it, but I had to fight to keep drummers in bands I was in because they listened to it and would rather make four times the money in a nu-metal band... and of course, I had delusions of having a shot at "making it" in those days. Fuck 1998 in its eye.

89The above post by fuzzbob is hitting a real nerve, only the band i was in (and also trying to "make it") bought into travis style lame pop which was having a resurgence in the UK around this time.. I was rocking Pavement (though their last album was just about to disappoint me, UK band Cable (ditto with their last album), Dinosaur Jr, Husker Du, The Fall, beefheart, smashing pumpkins, bjork and had just bought spiderland, in fact I remember showing my pile of purchases containing that CD to a forum member whose band I was also very much enjoying at the time, and him pointing out the "sounds better on vinyl" or whatever it says on the CD and saying that it really did, i was not ashamed at the time to not own a record player. The bands that were real faves of mine then are still faves now, but I guess I listen to them a little less, and now listen to alot more hip hop and alot more of my friends bands now. The one big difference then and now actually is that I now listen to a whole lot more of the UK DIY/ "real indie" or whatever music than i did then, where my knowledge extended to bands who I read about in the melody maker, purely through my involvement in putting on/ playing gigs and knowing people who actually play in good bands! I would say that a number of my favourite bands over the last few years have been people I've met/ played with through making music.

90about 10 years ago dillinger four was my favorite band... they were on a hopeless records compilation i got because i listened to mustard plug (was caught in a ska phase at the time), and i was like wow, this is something else entirely. i've never heard anything that sounded so urgent.
at the time i already kept track of labels like hopeless, so it wasn't hard to find out that D4 was about to release their debut LP. i was like wow i discovered this band just in time. that debut was "midwestern songs of the americas"... wow. to this day it's one of my favorite albums. before that, i guess the bouncing souls were my favorite band and this album blew them out of the water.
