THE guitar cables to get

1
ok so I have piles and piles of musiciansfriend guitar cables that cost 3-5 dollars depending on sale etc, and they all break or just suck, but I realized I only really need a few cables to play, and if I'm only buying a couple it makes perfect sense to invest in some that won't break or sound terrible. Suggestions? I do run two amps, and I might possibly do a stereo FX loop thing, I'm not sure, but I envision needing somewhere from three to five guitar cables, probably 20 foot each? I may also need several shortt pedal to pedal cables, because I use el cheapos there too.... Should I go with monster cables, or is there a hip custom cable guy/site I should go to?

Monster cables are the worst cable I have ever used. Some - not all - will actually suck the life out of your tone. I had two Monster cables running through my signal chain, and my bass sounded slightly thin and choked. After removing my pedals (noise suppressor, tuner and distortion pedal) and the link cables, I found the problem to be one of the two exact Monster cables.

Not to mention just about everyone who's used a Monster cable has complained about them breaking or fucking with their tone. I've had better luck with generic brands, to be honest.

Chris, how long have you been using Planet Waves cables?

You can roll your own which is much higher quality, and considerably less expensive than anything at Gui-Target. (plus you don't have endure the nuisance of actually going there.)

My recommendation:
Canare GS-6, with Switchcraft 1/4" mono instrument ends (straight or 90) and you can use inexpensive heat-shrink tubing to provide strain relief.

all in all, a 20' cable costs about 15$ and will last until you do something stupid to it.

Like going off on wasted intense improv and end up wrapping the cable around the drum kit, then proceeding to somehow remove the drum kit from the stage into the crowd, all by the guitar cable? yeah george L's are not messing around.

madraso are you in the band madraso?

The cable that I got from RedCo is THE best cable I've used (Canare & Mogami with Switchcraft plugs). They have this "build your own" page where you specify cable & connectors and they build it for you. Pretty inexpensive. Killer cables.
