"goat" is great, "liar" is good, "down" is ok.

I always told people Goat but I'm thinking Bang might be the perfect first course for someone uninitiated.

it is a good primer, as the songs span from the very beginning ("chrome") to very near to the end ("the test.) though, it seems to me this band isn't one that really takes a lot of time to "get." the introduction of "bang" isn't going to inspire the "must hear everything" fervor that "goat" inevitably will.

i feel bad for people who hear "goat" and don't get it. i had never heard a note of the jesus lizard before "goat" and when i put it in, i listened to it man, many, many more times that night.

i don't know how people don't get the jesus lizard. they must have low testerone, no appreciation of the strange and absurd, no sense of humor, and not like rock music. their loss.
buy my guitar. now with pictures!

Same here.

Goat is definitely a better introduction to the band than Bang. Yes, Bang highlights the bands musical transitions, but Goat is such a fucking powerhouse of an album from beginning to end and back again.

Why the fuck haven't they reissued Goat on vinyl? A mint copy just sold for over $70 on ebay last week. A $24.99 vinyl reissue, if done right (see the Mission of Burma reissues for a model), would seem like the bargain of the century in comparison, and I'm sure would make money for the label, no? They'd probably make a profit based solely on purchases by members of this board...

I see it as giving someone a nice little primer, some ideas as to what's going on before they sit down with a proper album.
Plus it's got Glamorous, and I cannot imagine anyone not saying 'fuck yeah' when they hear that shit.
You'd have to be a backwards ass fucking drooling fuck not to absolutely love that song.
