ok it could that I have been up for 24 hours....all night researching info on gear and what not... but what the hell is presonus doing with all there products now? im confused as to what the big difference in all the different firestudios have and why there priced differently....seems to me a couple of them look but do and have the same exact options.
that studiolive 16.4.2 thing looks pretty slick though, 16 channels all with preamps...thats pretty killer. but 2000.00!! yikes
does tascam have a similar firewire interface console like that?
going to go pass out for 2 days now
what in the hell is presonus doing?
2Some are interfaces with ADAT, some without, some just ADAT lightpipe no interface, etc. Then there are different levels of channels, pre configurations, component qualities, etc.

3The firestudio project is not as expandable as the regular firestudio. I just bought a Firestudio 26IO so I can just add more Micpre inputs later via ADAT.
That Studio Live thing really had me interested until I found out you have to use their recording software. Screw that!

Do people really still use ADAT to record? Seems to me most people record to a computer interface and thats that.
whats lightpipe?
actually like ive said before i dont really understand what allot of this shit means....I kinda know what to look for.
I need a good interface that has good analog to digital converters and preamps with enough channels to record a live band

6I believe he is refering to the adat connectors that allow you to chain units togeather. The digital light pipe connectors allow you to stream from the pre amp modules to the firepod that connects to your computer.
I think that the ADAT machine recording era is over but the connector lives on.

7People still use ADAT hardware recorders for recording but it's not as popular as it was. ADAT is a digital language and in my case I would use another firestudio or other brand preamp with ADAT outs to connect to my firestudio. Then record on a laptop using firewire.
How many inputs do you need?
Since you have a Mac you have Garage Band and it works really well.

9The overall strategy at presonus is to create new exciting products as quickly and cheaply as possible. This strategy allows them to keep up with the demands of the 'pro' market by keeping with the latest trends in low end, low quality equipment.
I got no respect for those fuckers. Terrible company, useless products, unless you like garbage.

10According to the features page on the Presonus web page, it's compatible with Logic, Nuendo, Cubase, Sonar, Digital Performer etc.
It looks like they also give you what they call Capture, which I bet is a slim downed recording app. for mobile shit.
