It looks like they also give you what they call Capture, which I bet is a slim downed recording app. for mobile shit.

I hope thats true for recording. Up until late last month it could only record direct using its own software and they said you had to make .wav files and import them to other DAWS. There has been a lot of complaning about that so I hope they made the change. It's too late for me anyway since I already bought a firestudio to start another mobile rig.

I got no respect for those fuckers. Terrible company, useless products, unless you like garbage.

Presonus stuff is OK. It's not something anyone would build an actual pro recording studio around. They pissed alot of people off because they had severe driver issues awhile back and then again with Vista and Leopard. But mine sound pretty good and work fine with XP and Tiger.

Presonus can go choke on their gear as far as I'm concerned. I'll never buy one of their products again and I suggest you don't either.

I bought a firestudio late last year and they still don't have the firmware and driver issues ironed out. It will not work with my ADATs using lightpipe and either they don't have the incentive to fix it or they fucked up somewhere and can't fix it. One of the reasons I bought it was to reuse my old ADATs as additional analog inputs, the other was price. Big regret - I should have bought the MOTU - remember you get what you pay for.

OK SO NO PRESONUS!!

I have read elsewhere that people really have issues with motu stuff as well. so i dont know what to think anymore. RME fireface always gets good reviews but i dont know if i wanna fork out fucking 1500 or whatever it is for it. thats like double what the motu mk2 is....well now they have the mk3 buts a god damn pci card.....i need firewire.

I think that the ADAT machine recording era is over but the connector lives on.

Bingo.

And I think in the end I'm just going to end up shelling out for a RME FF800. A/D/A conversion on MOTU gear leaves something to be desired, what's the point in saving $500 getting gear I'm going to be itching to replace in a year or two?

I think it depends on what your needs are for gear. I have a firepod and it is fine for my limited hobby needs and within my budget for gear. It is kind of the modern version of a portastudio and such. I don't realy have any bad feelings about it and it has worked withoout any problems from the day I bought it.

Drivers for it can be difficult I use xp and have no problems. Don't know why you would have problems with a mac as I don't think you use drives core apple audio is suppost to do the connection any company has to write drivers after they get the new operating system, when the companies immediatly start putting out updates to fix things this complicates things. Vista is not a robust or stable system at this point for music. For other stuff like midi drivers updates everyone has been having problems as the system updates screw up the drivers with each weekly update. As far as my music systems I don't update much after I set it up.

Before I waste any more of my money and wail on these Presonus idiots, I need a little backup - more likely from some of you old studio dogs.

1. Has anyone else tried any kind of lightpipe gear with a PreSonus Firestudio 26 x 26? Anyone else tried an Adat with it?

2. Has anyone ever had a problem with connecting a blackface adat lightpipe (w/out word clock or 9-pin sync) to any other brand firewire interface?

PreSonus so far sux. After about two weeks of email back an forth with their tech support, the email dude finally forwarded my question to their tech support chief. I'm not convinced either of them knew shit.

My firestudio works for analog but not ADAT lightpipe with my black face Adats. After waiting since last Nov they finally delivered drivers to correct a lightpipe issue and I gave my Adats another try with a lightpipe connection. PreSonus' excuse for it's failure to work with my Adats is that they claim the Blackface, being Alesis' first lightpipe device, has no sync imposed on the lightpipe and I must use the 9-pin sync.

Utter bullshit I think. I've never heard of this not working and was I certified by Alesis and I fixed these things for years. I've previously been able to move audio around between an Adat blackface and all kinds of gear without a problem. I used these Adats with a MOTU 828 firewire interface once and it worked fine as well. I ran all the tests and my Adats are perfect.

I tried the Firestudio with my S4+ synth, which was made years later, and that didn't work either (with and w/out the external work clock connected).
