Lately, in the evening, I've been going for walks in the woods by my house. The other night I saw 11 raccoons. 9 were in trees, 2 were on the ground. What do you make of this? Anything?

My first question is, "What kind of trees?"

Seminary Woods: This revered woodland is located near Lake Michigan in the southeastern portion of Milwaukee County in the City of St Francis. This southern mesic forest contains 68 acres of giant trees, rare ephemeral flowers, migratory birds, and a wide variety of wildlife. The footpaths that crisscross the vast woods have been used by generations of neighbors and distant visitors. A now rare mix of large beech, sugar maple, basswood, red and white oak, and some white birch tower over the mature ironwood, musclewood, and witchhazel composing the understory.

A lot of said trees are dead/hollow. The taller of these are the ones that the raccoons seem to favor.

Tim, can you explain "Uzbek Bread" to me? I am baffled!

I have never heard of this bread.

I was thinking about the text on the upcoming BP EP's cover art: Уз хлеб

My nascent Russian skills are pretty terrible, so maybe I misunderstood or it is a byproduct of the design. This is very cryptic to me!

Thanks for the excellent advice. I found the Merkur razor at the Merz Apothecary. I picked up a badger hair brush and some good quality shave soap to go with it. I just used it for the first time and your description was spot on. No need for an estrogen treatment for this guy now. Thanks.

Did you seriously do this, or are you pulling my leg?

That's awesome.

I am strangely pleased
.
I did in fact do this. I can be rather impetuous at times and your advice was the best I've ever heard regarding razors and shaving. The Merkur feels like a well built tool and I don't think I'll ever regret the purchase. One follow up question- about how many shaves do you get out of a single blade? Thanks again.
Edit: Very rude of me not to ask, besides being beautiful how was Paris? Did you go with your family?

I'm not Tim, but there is a great thread about shaving knocking about somewhere, I'm too busy to find it right now, but I think it started out as a C/NC about Gillette Fusion razors...it lead me to invest in a decent saftey razor, brush and soap too, and I have never looked back...I just recently purchased a straight razor too, although am yet to use it...

Shameless promotion but my wife makes organic shave soap and aftershave and sells it on these here internets the link is.

Here

She may not have any posted but if you ask she will provide. It is pretty damned good stuff, but I'm biased.

Did you try to ask for a "café bien serré" ?

No. See, this thing, speaking French in France, it would be a good idea.

I just stared pleadingly at people.

Hey, Tim Midgett:

I'm wondering what you think of the Alex Chilton bootleg "Dusted in Memphis." I ask because, you know, I've never heard it.

Sincerely,

Brett Eugene Ralph

Yeah, it's pretty good. It's got a lot of really good stuff on it.

I have it. Would you like a copy? Perhaps I'll burn you a CDR.

Please tell me you mean "a couple of month ago (at the Hideout)", and not actually a couple of weeks ago.

Sugar maple. Makes sense.

Those are acronyms.

No way for anyone to know this.

It probably does spell Uzbek Bread.

hey tim:

should I get a set of snow tires for my car? If so, should I get a second set of wheels, so I can change them myself?

should we send our kids to private school - the local elementary school is good, the middle school is OK and the high school sucks. I think we should save our bucks for private high school (if we don't move) and college.

should I sell my 35mm SLR? I have not used it in years, I use a digital camera all the time now. Will I regret it? I am no longer a serious photographer, but it could always come back. My hobbies have a way of resurrecting themselves.

Do you follow motorcycle racing?

thanks. I appreciate whatever information you can provide.

Hello Tmidgett,

I've gotten really good at avoiding the creaky floorboards in my house so as to avoid waking up my baby daughter when I go to the kitchen and back.

Thought you'd be interested,

Linus

Do you know any way to make floorboards less creaky?
Why do you make it so scary to post here.
