Gentlemen ( and ladies )
My girlfriend brought some shiny new M-Audio StudioPro 3 monitors back from the US. They are cheap and nasty, but mostly were going to be used for listening to music off my computer so I'm not defending my poor choice in electrical goods.
I'm my stupidity I plugged them in and switched them on without changing the 110V to 240V switch... they hummed, fizzed and the transformer died in a rather stinky manner.
I've opened the back and the transformer is Chinese and cheap looking. Can I buy a replacement at any stores any of you know of? It appears to be a totally standard 110-240V 15W transformer.
Yours,
G

4Well, you will need to know the secondary voltages, current handling and the footprint. this is a search engine that will tell you part numbers for the regular distributers in the US.

5Cheers! I can't seem to navigate.
The transformer has the following printed on it:
SP-3 (BDT-48A002) LF
Shenzhen Xingyaoda Electronics Co.Ltd
Anyone know if this means anything?

Nope but just to make you feel better, I blew a transformer for the exact same reason on Sunday. I used it for the drum machine in the US and forgot to set it back to 220 -> 110 . The thing started to catch fire.
I bought a new one today.
Do you feel less lonely now?

7Can't you just load up ProTools M-Powered and strap the transformer plug-in across the speaker bus? If your computer can't handle it, you may have to freeze the track to free up more CPU. Good luck.

10sounds like a pretty standard transformer. you just want one good for 15W or more that'll fit. there must be loads of 110-240 transformers. just make sure you wire it the right way around.
