Frankly, Rick is a pretty weak guitarist too. Whereas Reis is....Genius?
I don't know where to start with this statement, but let me start by saying I disagree with both points assuming the queerstion mark at the end of Reis "genius" isn't really asking. Soooo anyway, at the risk of completely taking this tread to a new level.........
Froberg is a complete badass. I've seen the guy live several times, and better than half the show I was watching him instead of Reis on all the Hawtsnakes tours. I am in no way saying he's better than Speedo, I'm just saying they guy singing and playing guitar gets a little more attention from me I guess. There is really nothing I would call "genius" about Reis post Drive Like Jehu and Pitchfork most def. I would actually use the term "progressive" and perhaps "badass" but not "genius" for the Jehu/ Pitchfork stuff honestly, and it's some of my favorite stuff all time. In my opinion, I put Reis on a level with the likes of Tonie Joy and Brian Baker. All were "progessive" pioneers with their instrument, but all had their limitations. I guess it all depends on the arbitrary term "genius" and what we really mean here. Do I see any of these guys as the Mozart of guitar? Not really.. Sadley enough, I would say Yngwie is more "genius" then any of the formentioned guys I respect 8x more than Yngwie. *bracing for impact*
