I liked it a lot. It had great gags based on all sorts of subtle and not-so-subtle pop/rock music history tidbits from the 1950's-present. John C. Reilly was great in it.

I wanted to like this when I first heard about it.

Then the trailers made it look REALLY SHITTY.

For some reason it made me feel oogy that it seemed to be taking jabs at real life tragedies that befell certain people (Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, etc.)

At this point I don't think I would go out of my way to see it or to avoid seeing it - so who knows...

No vote (yet).

I do like john c. reilly though. He's got another film coming out with Will Ferrell soon where they play step brothers might raise a smile.

I bought in to the absurdity of it all and laughed a lot. Jesus fuck, I've been waiting five days to say that.

I rented this and really really liked it (watched the extended cut) Uhm. Maybe I have no taste. The greatest thing ever was the whole Beatles scene. The faux Dylan lyrics. Let's Duet. Brian Wilson. The lyrics to "Royal Jelly". The soundtrack is even better....Van Dyke Parks himself wrote "Black Sheep", which I thought was a nice touch. My first thought with all the bad reviews was maybe the people didn't get what exactly they were parodying (someone on imdb thought the Brian Wilson stuff was a mockery of Sgt Peppers!?) but obviously EA people know their stuff and still don't like it. Ah well.

Rented it. Had low expectations. They were met.
