If you've actually moved here as a band en masse, just to have better access to Europe for touring purposes, I would honestly recommend moving again. London is indeed a town run by promoters and booking agents, and it's also insanely expensive!! Move somewhere cheaper, where there are more DIY shows and a more DIY attitude.
PM me for DIY contacts for London shows.

Have put on loads of bands from Ted Leo, the enablers, black eyes and Noxagt, to alot of the decent UK DIY bands, Lords, PC, Joeyfat, wolves! of greece, etc.
this guy

does more folksy gigs and stuff, (if that's your bag) he's doing really well at the moment with his local nights going all over.
This venue
www.windmillbrixton.co.uk in brixton, is a great place to go and see bands, the sound sometimes sucks and it's miles from the tube, but the beer is cheap and it stays open 'til 3 in the morning. I loved it when I lived in brixton.
I moved out of London in 2004 really so I can't vouch too much for the state of affairs now. Most of my friends moved out in the past few years too, to my mind it's expensive and it grinds you down. If I were a young band I'd definitely move somewhere else (not brighton though as that's just as expensive really!). There are good people and great bands all over though.

His band - Scul Hazzards - are playing in London on May 22nd at the Grosvenor, a gig which you should go to! Not only because ony of EA's very own shall be rocking out there, but they're also playing with the thoroughly excellent Marvin - a sensual slab of Trans Am/Holy Fuck-esque goodness that can't fail to please. Yes I'm biased as I booked their tour, but ask anyone else round here who's seen 'em - they're DA SHIT.
