any decent london bands?

London is a pretty hard place to be in a band, expect to be poor, not get anywhere without knowing "someone" and begin to hate all human life. I did it for ten years, if you're looking for a good place to rehearse I recommend Dropout,

the home of the aforementioned Part Chimp and many others, they have a myspace page, other good things.. Rachel and Andy at

Have put on loads of bands from Ted Leo, the enablers, black eyes and Noxagt, to alot of the decent UK DIY bands, Lords, PC, Joeyfat, wolves! of greece, etc.

this guy

does more folksy gigs and stuff, (if that's your bag) he's doing really well at the moment with his local nights going all over.

This venue

www.windmillbrixton.co.uk in brixton, is a great place to go and see bands, the sound sometimes sucks and it's miles from the tube, but the beer is cheap and it stays open 'til 3 in the morning. I loved it when I lived in brixton.

I moved out of London in 2004 really so I can't vouch too much for the state of affairs now. Most of my friends moved out in the past few years too, to my mind it's expensive and it grinds you down. If I were a young band I'd definitely move somewhere else (not brighton though as that's just as expensive really!). There are good people and great bands all over though.

If you've actually moved here as a band en masse, just to have better access to Europe for touring purposes, I would honestly recommend moving again. London is indeed a town run by promoters and booking agents, and it's also insanely expensive!! Move somewhere cheaper, where there are more DIY shows and a more DIY attitude.

PM me for DIY contacts for London shows.

we've moved to london cause we can get working visas here (well UK anyways) which we can't get anywhere else in europe. also they speak english which is a plus.

we also have a good friend network in london which has lead to a couple of shows but we've pretty much exhausted our options there at the moment. I have a friend who is helping us organise a couple of shows in glasgow so yeah, we're happy to travel the UK from here as well.

pming away, thanks!

oh, the band is this one

thanks for those. I've tried silver rocket a couple of times but they don't reply. I am guessing that a lot of promoters here get tonnes of bands contacting them daily about shows... I'll give the others a go though.

cheers!

yeah that's what I thought (about being busy, and the one gig a month thing). I was thinking of going down to the show there on friday anyways. we've played at that venue a couple of times so far and it's pretty decent. they seem like they would put on pretty ok bands as well.

His band - Scul Hazzards - are playing in London on May 22nd at the Grosvenor, a gig which you should go to! Not only because ony of EA's very own shall be rocking out there, but they're also playing with the thoroughly excellent Marvin - a sensual slab of Trans Am/Holy Fuck-esque goodness that can't fail to please. Yes I'm biased as I booked their tour, but ask anyone else round here who's seen 'em - they're DA SHIT.

Hey, OK already… I’m going.

When I mentioned this show to my girlfriend she assumed I meant The Grosvenor – as in the 5 Star luxury hotel in Mayfair. You could see her thinking Wow… What’s he doing going there? Maybe his taste in music has changed? Maybe I’ll go too. I then had to explain – No, it’s the Grosvenor pub round the corner. She won’t be coming...

Will you stop posting on the internet now and just book your own tour already. Playing in Lincoln and Coventry is not a tour… It doesn’t count unless you come to London.
