12loud as fuck, very clean, crystal-like sound, very hard to overdrive without peeling off the paint of the walls with volume.
works very well with pedals.
ah! and they are sooo heavy. i hate mine a little for that.

13Benny speaks the truth about Twins. Very loud and clean, though when played from 7-10 on the volume, You'll get overdriven tones like Abraxax era Santana. Later versions like the Riveira designed 80's blackface models, and the Red Knob versions will give you even higher gain Santana-ish tones until you stick an EQ pedal in the effects loop.
Fender Pro and Super Reverbs OTOH will yield raunchy overdriven Cramps style tones.
That beingsaid, the amp that you really want to avoid like the plague are the Super Twins. The wierd tone circuit, Active EQ is centered on frequencies that
that I found to be useless, as well as the horrible Fuzz Circuit make this an amp to avoid unless you want to mod the shit out of it to get good sounds. Then there's the fact that they're even louder than a regular twin, and output around 180-200 watts.

14I am into all those bands as well, but all those bands use a lot of different amps. I am in multiple projects and so I have an A/B setup, orange combo to fender Super reverb to get the all the tones I need. Pedals though are always what you will find to get the tones your looking for but its always good to have a clean warm amp before you start coloring your sound.
I would say these fenders are going to be best thing to get tones your looking for:
Super reverb
Super six reverb (exactly a super reverb only with 6 speakers instead of 4)
Quad Reverb (Its a twin with 4 speakers instead of 2)
Twin Reverb (no master volumes are the best imo)
Deluxe Reverb
Pro reverb
its always best to just play them of course. Black face ones will be more money but the circuit in them is the most coveted.
Sonic youth, My bloody valentine, dead meadow, are all known for using Super reverb's. They are my favorite fender.

FYI, The Super Six is not a Super Reverb with 6 speakers, it's a Fender Twin/Showman Reverb head in a 6x12" speaker cab.
Good sounding amp that is really loud, but man, do you really want to lug the thing around when doing a show?

16I bought a '68 Reverb Bandmaster a few weeks ago for $250. It's got an AMAZING clean tone. I am almost afraid to stand in front of it when I turn it up to distort it through my Mesa 2x12. Holy shit, that's the loudest 40 watts ever.
I have been told that the Sonic Boom Plus is the way to go if I want to get some gain on the amp before going in. I haven't bought one yet.

Thats odd. The three super six amps I have ever had all had ten's in them. And they were exactly the same amp as a super reverb.
The quad reverb and twin reverb are the same amp with 12's
Honestly the super six is not that bad to move as long as you have casters. BIG casters. If it sounds really good then a little work to move it is worth it to me.

the MXR boost, and the Seymore Duncan Pickup booster work just as well (I use the booster) also the booster has slightly more tone options...

They have 6 10" speakers, not 6 12" speakers. The Quad Reverb had 4 12" speakers. Both are beasts.

20If you can find one I would also look at the Ampeg Reverb Rocket 212, at 50 watts its plenty loud, its built like a tank an sounds like a fender with a slightly darker tone, and the reverb is HUGE sounding... the one down side is its really heavy (about 65 lbs) but its a great amp and in the states you can pick them up for less than a Fender...
