I agree.

Thank a god nobody in this thread has actually tied their personal opinion of Nebraska in with how other people like/dislike it, only expressed general bewilderment at the sort of sacred cow status it has earned over the years among certain listeners, especially when placed in the context of the rest of Springsteen's body of work (i.e. it's a Bruce Springsteen record, a lot like the others it supposedly trumps).

FWIW, I think Nebraska is a fine record.

There are some songs on Nebraska that remind me a lot of Scrawl's MO. Sort of cringey, I can't believe he just cut to the bone like that types of songs.

"Sometimes when it's your brother, you look the other way."

Lots in that song even though it reads pretty simplistic. Some might see this as melodrama. I think this is what happens when a songwriter who doesn't do bombast well but has great ideas strips away the bullshit.

Nebraska is a great album.

Born To Run and Darkness On The Edge of Town are my favorite Springsteen records though.

There is a great version of "Born In the USA" that was recorded with all the Nebraska material. Much less bombastic.

"Pink Cadillac" too...
