Just after we placed our order, I saw a BIG FUCKING RAT scurry out from the kitchen area and underneath a big soft drink cooler across the aisle from our booth. After a few moments of "holy crap did that really happen what the fuck," I went up and cancelled the order and walked down to Kuma's.

Doesn't every restaurant pretty much have vermin? Have we learned nothing from "Ratatouille?"

So far, this is not a great birthday - though a test did get canceled today, which was pretty great.

However, thanks very, very much for all the birthday wishes, PRF'ers - they were really nice and fun and made me laugh and feel appreciated.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

Yeah, my girlfriend said that the only place she's actually seen a rat in a restaurant before was when she was teaching English in China years ago. This was the first time I've seen one. Roaches, ants, sure. But never a big ol' rat. We've both been to plenty of dives and holes in the wall, too.

I'm sure I've eaten at plenty of places that had rat problems, but ignorance is bliss when they aren't running out into the front of the place.

This incident reminds me of when I used to work at a drug store in my hometown when I was a teenager, and one day a bunch of guys wearing aprons and shirts embroidered with the logo of the restaurant on the other side of the building quickly ran in and bought a bunch of cans of roach spray. They didn't have to ask where it was located--it seemed like it wasn't the first time. I decided never to go to that place.

I'll have to check out Brasa Roja. Thanks, 'sup!

The discomfort of going to work today was only tempered slightly by the fact they are filming this movie on the street where I work.

I was grateful that I needed to go to the copy place, so I could walk by the set and see if I could catch a glimpse of what was going on. I admired the lighting setup (didn't know you could use Kinoflo outside) but didn't see any of the actors. And had I known both Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti were in it, I would have stuck around.

I still feel like shit, by the way.
