Just for the record. I happened to be watching the game tonight with a young lady from America. She is not familiar with football in the slightest. When John Terry stepped up to take that penalty she said, without prompting -

He doesn't look like a penalty taker at all.

Recorded for posterity.

I've said as much elsewhere, but I'll expand here.

On several occasions over the last few weeks, I have seen John Terry restrain players from opposing teams to stop them from being sent off. He did this tonight with Vidic, after Drogba's ridiculous slap. Had he not, judging by Vidic's body language, Vidic would have taken Drogba apart resulting in two sendings off with an advantage to Chelsea attacking a team without one of their principle defenders.

I think that was a bigger mistake by Terry than slipping for the penalty.

Secondly, I thought Ronaldo's stop-start mode of penalty taking was outlawed shortly after John Aldridge made a show of it for Tranmere in 1992. I would have been intrigued had he scored and the goal been vital; you are not supposed to stop once your run-up has begun.

Third: this was a much better game than I expected but fuck this shit. Roll on Sunday.
