If you're talking about Cindy Blackman, I strongly disagree.

She's a fantastic drummer.

She's in a Volkswagen commercial now, right? I swear that was her in that commercial I saw yesterday.

Pete Haynes (Manic Esso) from the Lurkers was the crappiest drummer ever. How a drummer, even in a "punk rock" context, could be so thoroughly worthless is beyond me. On "Fulham Fallout" and "God's Lonely Men", he sounds a rhythmically challenged Tommy Ramone beating on a beef carcass with his elbows.

There may not be many Lurkers fans on this board, but they produced some quality second generation punk. Shame it was almost ruined by the drumming.

Maybe she just sucked with Lenny Kravitz, I dunno...

but c'mon, the drumming on "Are You Gonna Go My Way"?

bad...bad drumming

I think your issue might be with Mr. Kravitz himself. He does play drums, and I'm not sure how much Cindy plays on the records.

Palmolive. Inept isn't the word, but her stuff fit in really well with The Raincoats and The Slits - it's what made them so endearing/terrifying. You could say the same thing about Robo and the groups he's been in.

Steve West (Pavement) is one of THE most boring drummers ever. When you think that Grant Hart was strung out of his head on the last Husker Du albums but managed to exert more energy then West could ever hope of.

The Flaming Lips' drummer for their 80's stuff. Christ sake just calm down! You're shite, don't think you can hide it by playing fast!

Here's another vote for Colm O'Ciosoig (or however you spell his name)

Chad Wackerman. He's like a robot, he can play anything that Zappa told him to, but there's absolutely no feeling or passion.

I like to think of his background when I hear his drumming. He was playing with cabaret bands and all sorts of 'holiday season' groups. The idea of someone like this joining The Fall...you can just tell he's in it way over his head but it's fun to listen to him have a go. Apparently he went back to cabaret gigs after he left.

I dated Moe Tucker's daughter a hot minute a LONG time ago. I never got to the point where I was invited home to meet mom.

Wow, I was kind of a catalyst in a debate between two esteemed drummers on the pros and cons of Ralph Molina. Rock.

"esteemed" is a strong word in my case...

"Prone to bloviation" might have been more accurate.
