The ceramics are not staggered, and follow the general shape of the curvature of the neck. I've swapped out and played both pickups out of vintage RI strats from mexico, MIA standard strats and I had a MIA jaguar for a while, and I can say all those sound nearly identical, as well as they have a the same shape and stuff. I like those pickups a lot, and you can pick them up for 20 bucks, sometimes 40 for all 3 or so. I sold my MIM strat when I came across a 20 year old korean squier that played better than nearly any guitar I have ever held, for $130. I swapped out the electronics for MIA pickups, and I sincerely doubt there's an american strat that can hold it's own against this 20 year old $170 korean guitar.

That being said, I liked my MIM strat. It's kind of like a basic model honda.

korean guitars that old are awesome!! what year is yours?

waiting for the flood of dissenting opinion from Jazzmaster purists....

The change to the bridge is bad. Put a fucking mustang bridge on there if yer gunna change it. The truncated tail to bridge area is a terrible design flaw. The floating bridge will start moving forward because the strings are attacking the saddles at too steep an angle. The tone will be completely different, and because of the mod to the tail distance this JM will go out of tune often. Almost a totally different guitar, esp with hotter pickups.

If I did buy one of these, the first two things I would do:

1. Buy a set of Schaller roller saddles for the tuneomatic bridge. This is what I did for my Bigsby'd LP Jr (which has a very steep string angle). Problem solved.

2. Get a set of Fender USA Jazzmaster pickups, or equivalent wide-field 3rd party pickup.

Even with the above two added costs, this is still a good economical alternative to a USA JM.
Sometimes there is a buggy.

But the bridge is going to be pushed forward in the floating mount. That's the problem - the floating bridge is going to be pushed forward on the poles and the guitar will not stay in tune unless the bridge is made stationary, or if it's in that forward position all the time - either is bad for a JM.

Prolly a good idea.

I'm pretty sure the new MIM Jazzmaster even has a different neck profile.

With the moved tail, changed pups, and bridge/neck changes; it seems like Fender is meeting the Jag in the middle...

What about a Warmoth Jazzmaster?

The prices of the parts for a Jazz are way lower than the American Jazz/Jags, It's about the same price that you pay for a MIM jazz/jag.

Warmoth parts are built better it will also be exactly like a Jazzmaster. Any reason why one shouldn't do it? I'm sure people thought about doing that before me, but how come non one did it? Is there anything I'm missing? Seems to me like the perfect deal for a Jazzmaster/Jaguar, unless you have 3-5 grand.

But that's the fun part!

I might do this, actually (with help, of course) because if I want an offset guitar, I need a lefty (can't flip them comfortably) and finding one that I like is difficult.

Thinking of names for it now.
I make music/I also make pretty pictures

Warmoth and USACG materials and precision of specifications will beat just about any major production guitar company. I have a short-scale Tele that uses a USACG neck and a Warmoth body. The coupling is so goo the neck and body stay together without any bolts. I don't think you will find that level of precision in any Fender.
